A UCLA student’s YouTube rant about Asians in the library has prompted a barrage of response videos, including a catchy tune that’s gotten one performer a lot of sudden attention.
Jimmy Wong’s “Ching Chong (It Means I Love You),” an acoustic ditty, has gotten 1.6 million views since it posted on March 15 and overwhelmingly positive reviews on YouTube and iTunes, which have propelled the young singer into Internet stardom. (via Mashable.com)

Créée en 2005 avec le slogan “Broadcast yourself“, YouTube devait devenir le paradis des vidéos amateurs – oeuvrettes familiales, productions avant-gardistes bricolées avec les moyens du bord, performances musicales et remixes en tous genres, auxquelles le film de Michel Gondry Soyez sympas, rembobinez (Be Kind, Rewind) offrait en 2008 la plus belle incarnation. Une alternative aux productions stéréotypées des industries culturelles qui paraissait si alléchante qu’elle était rachetée par Google pour 1,6 milliards de dollars.
Mais le rêve d’un cinéma réalisé par des vidéastes de quartier a fait long feu. Aujourd’hui, sur YouTube, on trouve surtout les copies numériques d’archives et de programmes réédités en DVD, les dernières productions Universal et les clips de lady Gaga. Les remixes et les vidéos amateurs émigrent sur d’autres plates-formes, où ils seront moins exposés aux robots fouineurs, à la pression des ayants-droits et aux messages automatiques de retrait des contenus.
Fin du rêve de la télé par tous. Il n’y aura pas d’espace de diffusion alternatif, puisque sa seule existence est déjà une menace. Depuis Susan Boyle, nous savons que YouTube a réintegré l’ample giron des mass médias. Sa normalisation se poursuit.

The security footage that was posted to YouTube (YouTube) highlights one of the worst parking jobs ever caught on tape. While the video is actually quite hilarious, the reality is that this was a very real incident that took place on October 22, 2009 in an Ontario, Canada parking lot. But one of the victims of the accident can thank the viral accident for his brand new car."
