“A new infographic posted on the Dangerous Minds blog shows some striking differences between the Occupy movement and the Tea Party. The movement is younger, more politically independent, less wealthy and, unfortunately for all of the folks crying laziness, MORE EMPLOYED.’
Karen made all of her ‘sexual experiences’ into one thesis book and put into a powerpoint presentation complete with documents explaining in detailed and exquisite manner. This includes all the guys she hooked up with while she’s studying in Duke University. And she puts it on an evaluation progress sheet wherein she grades each individual according to physicial attractiveness, size, talent, creativity, aggressiveness, entertainment, athletic ability and a bonus.
À l’âge d’or succède le grand âge.
You may laugh at a prank on April Fools’ Day. But surprisingly, only 10 to 15 percent of laughter is the result of someone making a joke, said Baltimore neuroscientist Robert Provine, who has studied laughter for decades. Laughter is mostly about social responses rather than reaction to a joke.
“Laughter above all else is a social thing,” Provine said. “The requirement for laughter is another person.”
And it’s not just a people thing either. Chimps tickle each other and even laugh when another chimp pretends to tickle them.
Panksepp studies rats that laugh when he tickles them. Sound silly? It’s on YouTube and in scientific journals, a funny pairing of proofs when you think about. It turns out rats love to be tickled. They return again and again to the hands of researchers tickling them, Panksepp’s video shows. (via To scientists, laughter is no joke — it’s serious

~ Study Links Religious Groups and Racial Bias - USC NewsA meta-analysis of 55 independent studies carried out in the United States with more than 20,000 mostly Christian participants has found that members of religious congregations tend to harbor prejudiced views of other races.
The authors found a strong correlation between religious belief and racism, as measured through commonly used survey tools that rate respondents’ attitudes toward religion and racial minorities. Studies of highly devout groups showed the greatest correlation between religion and racism.
Wood and her co-authors also found little difference in racist attitudes between religious fundamentalists and more moderate Christians. The second group tended to pay lip service to racial equality but harbored the same prejudices.
Wood’s review places her among those scholars who find evidence of racial prejudice in a wide range of religious groups, from the highly devout and evangelical to the more moderate and less vocal.

~ Porn: Good for us? - The Scientist - Magazine of the Life SciencesOver the years, many scientists have investigated the link between pornography and sex crimes and attitudes towards women. And in every region investigated, researchers have found that as pornography has increased in availability, sex crimes have either decreased or not increased.
Despite the widespread and increasing availability of sexually explicit materials, according to national FBI Department of Justice statistics, the incidence of rape declined markedly from 1975 to 1995. This was particularly seen in the age categories 20–24 and 25–34, the people most likely to use the Internet.
~ Full moon brings out inner werewolf, scientists say - TelegraphA study conducted at the Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital, north of Sydney, found that in the year to July, 91 emergency patients with violent, acute disturbances comparable to werewolves were admitted.
“Some of these patients attacked the staff like animals, biting, spitting and scratching,” she said. The patients had to be sedated and physically restrained to protect themselves.
Werewolf mythology, she pointed out, included reports of people rubbing “magic ointment” on to their skin or inhaling vapours to induce the transformation from man to beast. The main ingredients of the ointment, said Miss Calver, were belladonna and nightshade - substances that could produce delirium, hallucinations and delusions of metamorphosis.
However the “modern day werewolf” used a different ‘potion’ - more than 60 per cent of the patients reviewed in her study were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
~ One man’s rumor is another man’s reality - Los Angeles TimesIt’s easy to assume that lack of education is the culprit when it comes to people believing rumors against logic and evidence — for instance, that Barack Obama, whose mother was an American citizen and whose state of birth has repeatedly said his birth records are in good order, isn’t a legitimate American citizen. But one 1994 survey on conspiracy theories found that educational level or occupational category were not factors in whether you believed in them or not.
What was significant? Insecurity about employment. That finding ties into psychologist Robert H. Knapp’s 1944 thesis that rumors “express and gratify the emotional needs” of communities during periods of social duress. They arise, in his view, to “express in simple and rationalized terms the uncertainties and hostilities which so many feel.”
