What’s interesting about all this is that, for all the arguments launched against atheism during the 17th century, there don’t seem to have been any atheists. There might have been a few, but they left no evidence. Granted, we don’t expect to see manifestos, but they might have left diaries, correspondence or other private writings to let us know. So it looks like all these people were railing at phantoms. (via Deep Things of Satan)

Chicks always fall for the bad guys.
Did you know that when you die, your body decomposes into the earth? There’s no soul, there’s no Heaven, God is meaningless? (…) This cognitive dissonance causes anxiety within you, but the thing is, atheism can cure you from this anxiety.
You’re part of the universe. You’re aware. Therefore, the universe is aware.
~ Atheist Ireland Publishes 25 Blasphemous Quotes | blasphemy.ieFrom today, 1 January 2010, the new Irish blasphemy law becomes operational, and we begin our campaign to have it repealed. Blasphemy is now a crime punishable by a €25,000 fine. The new law defines blasphemy as publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents of that religion, with some defences permitted.
In this context we now publish a list of 25 blasphemous quotes, which have previously been published by or uttered by or attributed to Jesus Christ, Muhammad, Mark Twain, Tom Lehrer, Randy Newman, James Kirkup, Monty Python, Rev Ian Paisley, Conor Cruise O’Brien, Frank Zappa, Salman Rushdie, Bjork, Amanda Donohoe, George Carlin, Paul Woodfull, Jerry Springer the Opera, Tim Minchin, Richard Dawkins, Pope Benedict XVI, Christopher Hitchens, PZ Myers, Ian O’Doherty, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor and Dermot Ahern.

~ American Atheists | Atheists File Suit In Oklahoma “prayer Bullying” CaseThe daughter of Chester Smalkowski wanted to play basketball for the Hardesty Public Schools. She was forced from the team when she, an Atheist, refused to recite the Lord’s Prayer after a game as was required by the school. When the Smalkowski family complained about this unconstitutional practice, she was suspended. Further complaints resulted in criminal charges being brought against her father.
Chester Smalkowski refused to submit to a request from the District Attorney to move his family out of the County in exchange for the charges being dropped. His case went to trial last month, and he was acquitted of all charges by a jury. The Smalkowski children have been threatened and subjected to discrimination for the daughter’s refusal to participate in the prayer recitation.
